About the event
Join us as we celebrate Jane Austen, one of the most well-known writers in English literature, with a series of special events at the British Council Libraries!
For our Book Club, we’re inviting you to a themed English tea party where we’ll be discussing Jane Austen’s acclaimed classic novel, Pride and Prejudice.
Set in 18th century England, this romantic-fiction follows the tale of five Bennet sisters, whose mother’s ambition is to attract the perfect suitors to marry them off. The novel largely focuses on the second eldest child, Elizabeth Bennet, who is headstrong, witty and not too keen on the idea of marriage; however, when two wealthy bachelors arrive in town, gossip and scandal surrounds the family and class differences stand in the way of love and happiness.
Come and sit down to some delicious treats at the Book Club, as we serve you traditional English snacks and scrumptious goodies with a hot pot of tea.
If you love to dress up, you’re welcome to put on your bonnets and gloves and head over to the library as we discuss this iconic novel.
Pick up the book from our collection and read this brilliant classic to join in the conversation.
