About the event
The British Council Library in Lahore is thrilled to be hosting an exclusive evening with Muhammad Hanif upon the publication of his most recent and highly acclaimed novel, Red Birds. Marked with his trademark satire and wit, alternating between slapstick and poignant, this novel is a resounding critique of both the production and ravages of modern war. Red Birds is nothing if not a conversation-starter.
Hanif will be in conversation with Aysha Raja, owner of the ‘The Last Word’ bookstore.
Hanif will also read an excerpt from Red Birds, and will later be taking questions from the audience. The lively discussion will be followed by canapés.
About the author:
Muhammad Hanif is one of Pakistan’s most important literary voices – uncompromising, nuanced and deeply grounded. A career journalist who switched to fiction, Red Birds is his third novel. His first novel ‘A Case of Exploding Mangos’ was long-listed for the Man Booker prize, shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award, and won the Commonwealth First Book and the Shakti Bhatt First Book Prizes. His second novel ‘Our Lady of Alice Bhatti’ was shortlisted for the Wellcome Trust Book Prize and the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature. His work has been published in The Daily Telegraph, The New Yorker and The Washington Post, and he writes a monthly opinion piece for The New York Times.
