The publication of this month’s pick for book club may just be the literary event of the year! We can’t wait to dive into Margaret Atwood’s much anticipated sequel to ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’. If you’d read the book, come join us for an in-depth discussion of this shortlist for the 2019 Booker Prize!
Thirty-four years after the publication of her bleak and shocking dystopian novel about class and gender privilege comes it’s thrilling sequel. Written in a similar style to its predecessor, the book consists of testimonies from three woman documenting the death throes of Gilead. Aunt Lydia, a fearsome woman in charge of the handmaids, watches as the world she’s helped to sustain crumbles around her. Agnes, a member of the Gilead elite, describes being groomed to become the wife of a commander. Daisy, a teenager living in Canada, speaks of her path to joining the resistance. Join us as we discuss the book we’ve all been waiting for over a cup of tea and some snacks!
