About the event
Our Book Club pick for National Novel Writing Month is The Night Circus, originally written by Morgenstern over three successive NaNoWriMos as her entry for the competition.
A mysterious circus appears on random nights to amaze Victorian London with spectacular sights and mind-boggling illusions. It boasts gardens of ice, death-defying acrobats and seers who really can see the future.
It is not, however, merely enchanted entertainment for the select few who learn of its existence, but rather the stage for a bitter feud between two rival magicians. They have pitted their apprentices, Celia and Marco, against each other in a long-running competition and as the young people attempt to impress all comers with otherworldly displays, they remain unaware of their true, deadly purpose. As the witchery begins to get out of hand and the circus grows ever stranger, Marcos and Celia do something their teachers did not expect; they fall in love.
