About the event
The libraries are celebrating ‘Modern Love’ this February and we’re cashing in on the theme with Kevin Kwans rollicking satire on the lives of the Chinese ultra-rich in Singapore with this month’s book club pick.
Rachael and Nick have been dating long enough to warrant a meeting with Nick’s parents and the perfect setting for this is his cousin’s wedding in Singapore. What Nick has forgotten to mention is that his family is one of the many obscenely wealthy Chinese clans that live and shop in the small island nation and Rachel is thrown head first into a world of private jets, luxury hotels and haute couture.
As Nick’s relatives and ex-girlfriends dig into Rachael’s life and plot to separate the couple, it seems as though the disparity of their lifestyles will be too much for their relationship. Will true love reign over cold hard cash?
Whether you’ve read the book or seen the blockbuster film, come join us as we discuss this hilarious read over coffee and some snacks.
